On Monday, April 9, 2012, a Buchanan County Grand Jury returned a total of 288 indictments as true bills against 43 defendants. Included in these indictments were a number of violent crimes such as attempted capital murder, armed robbery, and burglary, as well as sex crimes, and a multitude of theft related charges.
The April 2012 Grand Jury issued more true bills than any other regular grand jury in more than five years. When asked for comment, Buchanan County Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerald Arrington said “I knew that my staff and I had been working very hard since we took office in January and these statistics certainly prove it.”
Arrington went on to praise his staff, members of law enforcement, and the courthouse staff for their hard work. He also thanked the members of the grand jury and noted that they “gave up not only their entire day to serve on the grand jury but also tirelessly worked through their lunch break as part of their service to our community.”
